MRF ZWR – Extreme Wet Tarmac Rally Tyre

The MRF Motorsport Tyres ZWR is a competition tyre specifically developed for wet tarmac rallies and extreme rain conditions.

Its latest evolution combines a lighter and more responsive carcass, a dedicated wet compound and a highly open tread pattern designed to deliver fast warm-up, maximum water evacuation and a high level of grip from the very first kilometres of the stage.

The ZWR is supplied from the factory with its maximum wet tread pattern, ready to compete in heavy rain and standing water conditions.

For damp tarmac, light rain or mixed wet/dry stages, we recommend using the MRF ZTA, with its standard tread pattern or additional hand-cutting depending on conditions.

Available Compound

W – Dedicated Wet Compound

A compound developed specifically for wet tarmac and extreme rain conditions.

Its formulation allows the tyre to generate temperature very quickly once loaded, providing grip from the first metres even in very low ambient temperatures.

Recommended use:

  • Wet tarmac
  • Heavy rain
  • Standing water
  • Very low temperatures
  • Extremely low-grip conditions
  • Tarmac contaminated by mud, dirt or debris from corner cutting

Fast Warm-Up

One of the main improvements of the latest ZWR evolution is its lightweight carcass construction.

This allows the tyre to start working more quickly and helps the compound reach its optimum operating window from the first kilometres.

The result is greater confidence in difficult conditions, with high levels of braking performance, traction and lateral grip from the beginning of the stage.

Maximum Water Evacuation

The highly open tread pattern of the MRF ZWR has been specifically designed to channel and evacuate large quantities of water from the contact patch.

This is particularly important in heavy rain and standing water, but also when the road is contaminated by mud, dirt and debris dragged onto the tarmac by cars cutting corners.

The result is improved tyre contact with the road and greater vehicle control in the most demanding wet conditions.

Good Performance as the Road Begins to Dry

A wet rally tyre must provide maximum grip in heavy rain, but it also needs to cope with changing conditions during a stage.

The MRF ZWR offers an excellent balance between wet grip and resistance to degradation, maintaining consistent performance even when sections of the road begin to dry.

This provides additional confidence during rallies with unstable weather, where conditions can change significantly between the service park and the stage.

Available Sizes

The MRF ZWR range is available in sizes from 13" to 18", covering a wide variety of modern and historic rally cars.

FIA-homologated sizes:

195/50 R15 · 195/50 R16 · 205/45 R17 · 235/40 R18

For the remaining sizes, specific FIA tyre homologation may not be required depending on the category and applicable regulations.

Recommended Tyre Pressures

The ideal working pressure depends on the vehicle, tyre size, stage conditions and temperature.

As a general reference, some applications may start at approximately 1.7 bar cold to allow the carcass to work more effectively, while other vehicles may require pressures closer to 2.0 bar.

Contact us before use for personalised tyre pressure and application advice.

When Should You Choose the MRF ZWR?

Choose the MRF ZWR when conditions require maximum water evacuation and the highest possible level of grip in heavy rain.

For light rain, damp tarmac or mixed wet/dry stages, consider the MRF ZTA, using its standard tread pattern or additional hand-cutting depending on conditions.

USER INFORMATION

TYRE STORAGE:

Tyres should be stored in a cool, dry and dark place away from direct sunlight (Suggested storage temperature: 25°C ± 5°C). Avoid storing tyres in an area which is wet, oily or greasy.

RIMS:

Recommended width of the wheel as specified to be used for optimum performance. However, from the original specified rim width ± 0.5’’ can also be used. ETRTO/JATMA standards can be referred for the correct rim width.

TYRE MOUNTING AND REMOVAL:

Mounting/demounting should be done by trained personnel using a suitable mounting machine. Prior to fitment, inspect the rim and tyres for any external damage. Tyres have to be mounted according to the direction of rotation specified on the sidewall. The rim seating area and tyre beads should be lubricated. Recommended tyre pressure to be followed. Check for the proper seating of the beads and tyre centring with reference to RCR (Rim Centre Ring) after inflation. Balancing of the tyres must be done.

LEFT & RIGHT:

Directional pattern tyres must be used on the correct side. Left or Right and Outer side marking on the sidewall must be followed for best performance.

HAND-CUT TREAD PATTERN:

Groove width between the pattern blocks can be widened if required. However, hand cutting the buttons could alter the performance. Hence a careful decision is to be made based on the terrain conditions.
